I'm more disturb with the statement made by Tun M's daughter, Marina Mahathir (MM) who defends the event as if it is the right of Muslim to hold a kenduri doa selamat! Furthermore, she said that she has been defending the LGBT community right for more than 20 years! unbelievable...
With regards to the event, MM said she officiated the event 2 years ago. The event is about explaining and educating the LGBT community about their rights within the law NOT a free sex festival as alleged. Now, she claimed that UMNO-controlled media particularly TV3 described the event as a free sex festival BUT I could not find anything that could have substantiated her claimed.
Even though the first article published on the organiser's website is dated September 15, 2008 but the first event of such was held on August 29, 2008 with the tagline of "if one of us ain't free, none of us are". The second event was held in the subsequent year with a theme called "our bodies, our rights". 2010's event was called "we are family".
Now, enough information about the Seksualiti Merdeka event. Let us go now to what I think about the idea of Seksualiti Merdeka under the banner of human rights. After all this is my blog and its suppose to allow me to share my thoughts with those who care to read it. As an average man living peacefully in this blessed land of Malaysia, I truly believe that each human has rights that cannot what soever be denied by other human or rules and regulation of countries BUT limited to certain extend. In other word, rights that's limited or limited rights!
How can that be then? Have rights but limited. Some already argued that is almost the same as not having rights at all. Well, since LGBT is about sexual orientation then we should limit our discussion with regards to the matter.
First and foremost, sexual orientations of other then with male and female have been gazetted as illegal and punishable by Malaysian law. Thus when MM said the event is about education the LGBT community about their rights within the law is absurd.
Religions wise, everybody know that Abrahamic forbids it except for Buddhism that does not explicitly states the banning of homosexuality thus causing a debate among its followers. However Dalai Lama in 1997, while meeting with human activists in San Francisco commented that all form of sex other than penile-vaginal sex are prohibited for Buddhists whether heterosexuals or homosexual.
I believe that feel or desire, what ever it maybe, good or bad, it is God given. Through experience of life and teaching we however know that God allows these feelings or desires be nurtured from young or from the point of its discovery. Homosexual is rejected by all religion and illegal in almost all of the countries in the world. It is biologically wrong. It is morally wrong. It is religiously wrong and sinful.
I believe that instead of celebrating and seeking permission to live a gay life, one should find guidance towards jettisoning the feeling or desire be it psychophysically or religiously. Do not tell me about the pressure of homosexual is greater than heterosexual. Uncontrolled heterosexuals is as much disastrous as homosexuals. The idea is we must suppress these negative desires while continuously healing ourselves from this wrong feeling. No matter how hard it can be, we must change it or minimize it.
Now, just imagine if we second the notion of legalizing homosexuality, allowing the LGBT community to flourish in Malaysia, what will happen next and where will this stop? How about nudist community? Will we have MM to officiate a nudist community gathering and fight for a nudist beach somewhere in Malaysia? Its human right after all to go nude anywhere they pleased and it is not disturbing anyone else. How about free-sex festival? as long as there are mutual consent, human should have the right to have sex with each other be it by a couple a group of couples. Will MM officiate their festival and fight for their right to a monthly event perhaps?
